Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

Actively participates in duties of a high performance three-member crew assigned to maintain, upgrade, and expand the Utility’s water distribution system and the sanitary sewer collection system.  Work assignments include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Operate Utility equipment units, such as backhoe/loader, dump truck, hydraulic jet (flush) truck, rodder, and tools such as hole hog, tapping machine, jackhammer, acetylene torch, pipe saw, trash pump and air compressor, to perform any operation within the capacity of the equipment and as necessary to accomplish the job required
  • Locating and repair of water leaks
  • Analyzing and correcting low-pressure services
  • Repairing, replacing and providing maintenance on water mains, valves, meter services, fire hydrants and other water system appurtenances
  • Locating and repairing all breaks and stoppages in sewer mains and lateral lines
  • Cleaning, repairing, and replacement of sewer mains and manholes
  • Adjusting valve boxes and manhole lids to proper grade
  • Construction of water and sewer line extensions, installing new meter services and sewer taps, hydrants, valves and manholes
  • Clean, service, and maintain all vehicles, equipment, and tools assigned to the crew
  • Assist with housekeeping, cleaning, and maintenance of workplace facilities
  • When called upon, assist other Utility divisions in the maintenance and minor construction of the facilities for which they are responsible
  • Perform other duties and special assignments as directed by superiors

Education & Training

Job Description

Working under the direction of the Rehab Supervisor and supervision of the Distribution Manager and the Distribution Director, this individual is a member of a three-man crew working in the water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems owned, operated, and maintained by Springdale Water Utilities, hereinafter referred to as the Utility.  The Rehab Crew is charged with the primary responsibility of sewer system rehabilitation; however, it is expected to perform other duties in the Utility’s water distribution and sanitary sewer system as directed by the Distribution Manager.  Individuals employed in this position are responsible for making sure health and safety measures are executed. This is a safety sensitive position. Pre-employment and random drug testing are required per DOT regulations.

This position is required to be on call (duty assignment) at scheduled weekly intervals and to be available for working outside normal business hours.

Responsibilities

Actively participates in duties of a high performance three-member crew assigned to rehabilitate the Utility’s sanitary sewer system.  In addition to mitigating the amount of infiltration and inflow into the sewer collection system, the efforts of this crew are aimed at reducing overflows and sewer backups resulting from grease accumulation, root intrusion, broken pipe, defective joints, and other system defects.    From time to time this crew will assist with other maintenance duties in the sewer and water systems.  Work assignments shall include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Clean, repair, and replace sewer mains, taps, laterals, siphons, and manholes
  • Clear all blockages and remove grease/scum, rocks and other foreign matter accumulated in sewer mains, manholes, siphons and wet wells
  • Rehabilitate manholes and adjust covers to proper grade
  • Smoke testing and dye tracing to identify sources of inflow and infiltration
  • Apply inhibitors and herbicides in sewers to mitigate the effects of root infestation
  • Conduct flow monitoring to identify line segments and mini-systems with excessive inflow and infiltration
  • Assist with efforts to update maps of the sanitary collection system
  • Prepare reports and records to identify deficiencies found in the collection system and the corrective measures implemented
  • Perform other duties required to improve the operation and efficiency of the sewer collection system
  • Assist with the housekeeping, cleaning and maintenance of workplace facilities

JOB SUMMARY

Working under the direction of the Pump Station Manager, persons in this position are charged with the primary responsibility of working in the operation and maintenance of all sewer lift stations, water storage facilities and water booster stations owned, operated and maintained by Springdale Water Utilities, hereinafter referred to as the Utility. The Pump Station Operator is responsible for ensuring appropriate health and safety measures are established and executed by pump station operators. This is a safety sensitive position. Pre-employment and random drug testing are required per DOT regulations.

This position is required to be on call (duty assignment) at scheduled weekly intervals and to be available for working outside normal business hours.

GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

This individual assumes responsibility for daily work assignments required for operation, maintenance, and repair of water storage facilities and pump stations (sewer lift stations and water booster stations). Work assignments include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Inspect all assigned facilities at frequent intervals to ensure proper working conditions and that security at each location is being
  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all pumps, controls, and ancillary equipment
  • Maintain all motors, switches, controls, standby (emergency) generators, and all other electrical operated devices in a safe and good electrical order
  • Maintain operating records as required and evaluate operating performance of each pump to assure maximum efficiency
  • Periodically clean wetwells to remove accumulated grease/scum, rocks, and other debris to assure maximum pumping efficiency
  • Provide for needed repairs to pumps, valves, controls, electrical systems, emergency generators, and other essential equipment at pump stations, residential STEP tanks and water storage facilities
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of all tools, equipment parts, and maintenance supplies
  • Maintaining an adequate inventory of spare parts for emergency repairs on all pump station components including the SCADA system, which are deemed to be critical for the continued and reliable operation of water storage facilities and pump stations
  • Respond to and resolve pressure sewer system customer requests, complaints, and
  • Ensure that an adequate stock of all needed maintenance supplies are available
  • Perform daily checks on the operation of the SCADA system and provide for repairs as needed
  • Assist with grounds maintenance duties which includes mowing, bush hogging, edging, and trimming at each of the water storage facilities and pump stations
  • Clean and maintain all assigned vehicles, equipment, and tools
  • Assist in the development of a maintenance program for all assigned trucks and equipment
  • Provide for the housekeeping, cleaning, and maintenance of workplace facilities
  • Inspect, maintain and provide repairs as needed on the Utility’s security and fire prevention systems
  • Respond to emergency calls at all times of the day and night

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Restore back all properties in a timely manner to original or better conditions, after necessary repairs and taps have been performed by distribution and collection crews.
  • Restore/replace concrete sidewalks, driveways, streets, curbs, etc. back to original or better conditions after removal for repairs and taps performed by distribution and collection crews.
  • Inspect and measure excavations after repairs performed by distribution and collection crews, in order to calculate the amount of concrete, topsoil, grass seed, sod, mulch decorative rock, etc. needed for restorations.
  • Maintain Tools and equipment specifically utilized for concrete restorations.
  • Order, pick-up, transport or have delivered above listed materials and concrete to locations in need of restoration.
  • Inform owners, managers, or renters of residences, businesses, commercial and State and City properties of tentative schedule for restoring properties affected by distribution and collection repair or tap activities and respond professionally to any questions or concerns they may have.
  • Operate and maintain valve exercising, locating and GIS equipment, and utilize said equipment to locate, inspect, operate, maintain, record locations of, and routinely exercise valves throughout the distribution and collection systems.
  • Keep an accurate record and inform the White River Distribution Manager of any deficiencies identified involving valves.
  • Prepare reports and records as needed in the identification and maintenance performed on valves.
  • Assist in the mapping of distribution and collection valves.
  • Investigate and address consumer queries regarding problems within the water distribution or sanitary sewer systems.
  • Assist other Utility crews and departments in need of additional personnel in order to complete projects, deadlines or to temporarily relieve excessive workload.
  • Assist Plumbers and consumers, when necessary, in identifying blockages, obstructions or deficiencies in private sewer laterals and determine, per policy guidelines, party responsible for repair.
  • Identify inflow and infiltration into sewer collection system including private services.
  • Inspect, test, flush, repair, paint and install fire hydrants in the water distribution system of the Utility
  • Locate, inspect, operate, and maintain distribution valves and valve boxes
  • Adjust to proper grade all valve boxes and manhole lids located in streets, highways and other public thoroughfares.
  • Assist in the mapping of valves and hydrants

Job Description

This position is based at the Springdale Wastewater Treatment Facilities under the supervision of the WWTF Environmental Manager. This position provides direct supervision of the WWTF Laboratory Analyst positions. The Laboratory Supervisor assumes the responsibility of Laboratory Analyst as they provide skilled analytical services and scientific knowledge to the treatment facilities. The Laboratory Supervisor may able be required to fulfill the function of a Laboratory Analyst as circumstances require.

This position supports our Mission of providing safe, high quality drinking water to our patrons and to responsibly treat and dispose of wastewater generated by patrons and protect public health.

It requires skilled analytical work involving sampling and laboratory analysis of wastewater samples for NPDES permit requirements, process control, and the Industrial Pretreatment Program, along with related duties as required. This is a safety sensitive position.

This position may include work outside normal business hours including weekends and holidays.

General Duties & Responsibilities

General duties and responsibilities are as follows:

  • Plans, coordinates, directs, and evaluates the work of laboratory personnel.
  • Monitors the operation of the laboratory and works with staff to relay laboratory data to appropriate personnel to ensure continued high quality of effluent and compliance with all permits, effective wastewater treatment processes, and regular monitoring of industrial discharges to the treatment facilities.
  • Perform chemical and biological analyses of municipal wastes, industrial effluents, treatment plant processes, and the receiving stream. Perform bacteriological analyses of wastewater.
  • Follow USEPA approved methodology to satisfy operational and regulatory permit requirements. Follow federal and state guidelines and provide required permit information.  Make procedural modifications as necessary.
  • Maintain a quality control program using a system of internal and external checks and controls as specified to assure the precision and accuracy of analyses.
  • Calculate analytical results and maintain necessary records. Perform instrument calibrations and chemical standardization as required.  Prepare chemical solutions and reagents necessary to perform laboratory analyses.
  • Assist in coordinating sampling for compliance and surcharge monitoring. Collect samples as required.
  • Assist in inventory control of supplies and chemicals. Order chemicals, supplies, and laboratory equipment as necessary to perform analyses.
  • Maintain and clean laboratory, equipment, and glassware to maintain a neat and orderly working environment and to assure quality performance and longevity of equipment.

Facilities conditions warrant extra precaution when working near high voltage switchgear and equipment; potential contact with a variety of combustible, corrosive and toxic chemicals and gases such as chlorine, sulfur dioxide, polymers, methane, and oxygen; and working around raw sewage. Exposure to odors, dust, sludge, high noise levels, machinery vibrations, and other hazards are experienced daily.

Lab Environment: Work skills require walking, standing for extended period of time; dexterity of hands and fingers to operate computer keyboard and laboratory equipment; reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally, bending at the waist and kneeling or crouching to retrieve lab samples; hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone; and seeing to read various documents related to assigned activities.  Good color perception and the ability to adjust focus is required in order to perform the many colorimetric tests involved in the laboratory.  The employee may be required to push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds a limited number of times during the day.  The noise level is usually moderately quiet.
